Jasper’s Purchase Of The Week // Bon Iver / Solange / Jenny Hval / Tycho / Goose / Adult Future / Fatal Jamz / Mylko

Seeing as it’s becoming more and more regular that I’m getting less and less time for blogging it’s meaning I’m having to prioritise a tad with the new bands/ artists/ music stuff (the NMTs) taking favour over the new album stuff (the POTWs like this). So from this point on we’re gonna go for a shortened format here in the POTW, a bit like the last few weeks’ ones, where I’ll give you each album’s key deets (name, artwork), along with a rating out of five emojis (the type of emoji may or may not relate to the music in some weird way…), a very short lowdown of who should be diggin’ it or who it reminds me of, and then a preview single from taken from it. Capisce?

 Album Artist/ Name – Bon Iver22, A Million

 Rating-   😈 😈 😈 😈 😈

The Lowdown – Weird and completely wonderful experimental, dreamy, synthy, folky, alt indie. Closer to his side project as The Volcano Choir than his For Emma, Forever Ago days.

Album Artist/ Name – SolangeA Seat At The Table

Rating – 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

The Lowdown – Very impressive debut from the lesser known thinking man’s Knowles sis, that if there’s any justice should now move well and truly out of the Yonce’s substantial shadow. Think late ’80s/ early ’90s influenced smooth RnB in the mould of Regular collaborator Dev Hynes (Blood Orange)

Jenny HvalBlood Bitch

Rating – 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮

The Lowdown – Stunningly weird album about, well, menstruation. The most visceral, amusing & slightly unsettling record of folky, synthy experimentalism you’ll hear all year.

Rating – 😎 😎 😎 😎

The Lowdown – Chilled balearic electronic instrumentals from the best in the business for chilled balearic electronic instrumentals.

GooseWhat You Need

Rating – 😎 😎 😎 😎

The Lowdown – Uber cool dancefloor ready electronica from Belgian four piece recorded with Ariel Pink and Beck collaborator Jason Falkner in LA

Adult Future – In The News

Rating – 💡 💡 💡 💡

The Lowdown – Deeper than most, alt rock from Toronto trio’s debut record, with leanings towards indie, electronic & psych along with a few decent pop hooks for good measure.

Fatal JamzCoverboy

Rating – 😛 😛 😛 😛

The Lowdown – Glammed up indie rock from cult L.A. artist Marion Belle’s second record. Bowie would be proud.

Rating – ➡ ➡ ➡ ➡

The Lowdown – Futuristic experimental electronic pop from Mexico City based duo Jose Pablo Ibarra and Patricio Dávila Sanchez or Jopa & Pato. Unique & intriguing.

My my that was a high standard week of music hey. Genuinely tried to mark every record lower than a four but just couldn’t bring myself to do it 😳
